You Know It’s Summer When

Strawberries and cream can mean only one thing! No! Not another 50 shades of grey film, you pervert! It is of course the start of Wimbledon. The big talking point will be can Andy Murray win his third Wimbledon crown?
The Greatest Tennis Tournament in the World
Us Brits are really spoilt when it comes to great sporting events. The FA Cup, Grand National, Royal Ascot, British Open, Masters Snooker and of course, The Wimbledon Tennis Championships.
The Wimbledon Tennis Championships is the oldest in the world and has taken place at Wimbledon since 1877. Public demand for tickets is so great that fans have been camping since Friday just to que in line in the hope of getting tickets.
How do I Watch Wimbledon?
BBC is the place to be for all things Wimbledon. Live coverage starts at 11:30 on BBC TWO and continues till 20:30. The bigger matches will be shown on BBC One and coverage starts at 13:45 and lasts till 18:00.
BBC are great at utilising new technology and you can stream action from all 15 courts by visiting here.
Who Do the Bookies Fancy?
Men’s
In the men’s game the bookies believe Roger Federer will win the tournament. Odds of 2/1 indicate they feel it’s a certainty that Federer will add to the 18 Grand Slam titles he already has. The Swiss held the number one spot in tennis for a record 302 weeks.
Rafael Nadal has 15 Grand Slam titles to his name and is a 9/2 shot with the bookies. Widely regarded as the best clay player in the world, he has shown his class on grass too and won Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010.
Andy Murray is of course the focus of most of the media and public attention. The bookies rate him at a 11/2 shot. No doubt Andy will put in a determined effort at this year’s tournament but will his hip injury get in the way of Andy lifting the famous trophy for a third time?
Novak Djokovic is ranked number 4 in the world and you can get odds of 5/1 for the Serbian to win Wimbledon. Novak has won Wimbledon on three occasions. His form has been an issue this year, he beat Andy Murray in January but then lost to world number 117 Dennis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the Australian Open.
There is then a huge gap to the rest of the field with Marin Cillic the next lowest odds bet at 16/1.
Women’s
In the women’s match the bookies feel it is a straight fight between Karolína Plíšková and Petra Kvitová .
Karolína Plíšková is available at odds of 9/2. The Czech’s best performance at Wimbledon singles is only the second round, she did however reach the semi-finals of the doubles last year. Plíšková is an aggressive player and many feel this is her year to claim Wimbledon.
Petra Kvitová has won 20 career single titles but more importantly, she won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014. Petra was subjected to a robbery in her own home and was attacked with a knife and suffered multiple lacerations to the tendons which affected the nerves on her left hand. Petra herself has played down her chances of winning and in an interview stated she had already won her biggest battle by playing tennis again after the horror attack.
